When last did you actually sat down and did some active thinking on what it is that you really would like for your life?

The following pointers will help you to find some direction:

Start dreaming again

  • How do you want your life to look?
  • What have you always wanted to do?
  • We cannot make any changes in our lifestyle if we don’t know what it is that we actually want.
  • Do you realise that God had a purpose in mind when He created you? Have you ever stopped and asked Him why you are here? He usually is the One who puts dreams in our hearts in the first place to stir us enough to pursue it, but did you give in to thinking that it is impossible? Remember God is a God of possibilities. Involve Him in your dreaming, don’t go it alone – He can open doors you don’t realise exists and He can even give you something that doesn’t currently exists yet. He can give you the direction to how and when to step out in faith.
  • Maybe you have always dreamed of being an entrepreneur and giving up your well-paying job to start your own business.
  • Maybe you want to move to a different country or travel around the world?

Determine what is holding you back

Once you’ve determined your dreams, try to zone in on what exactly are the reasons for you not acting upon what you truly want.

  • Why don’t you go after that job you’ve always wanted or that business that is in your heart?
  • Why do you keep finding excuses for traveling the world?
  • Why do you envy others for having the guts to constantly evolve in all aspects of life but you never step outside your comfort zone?

Be honest with yourself. Be ruthless. Take some time for yourself and really dig deep.

Face your fears

Analyse what it is that scares you about stepping out in faith. Whatever your insecurities are, ask yourself if they are valid ones.

  • Does your fear of financial bankruptcy really hold true?
  • Is the job you have really the only alternative to making a living?

Try to be as objective as possible, even if it feels very uncomfortable. You’ll soon see that most of your fears are just something related to your mindset.

Make the changes

Now that you started to gain a better understanding of why you haven’t been able to pursue your dreams, it’s time to make some changes. Start small in order to not get overwhelmed.

  • Maybe your diet is worse than it should be – start eating healthier food.
  • Maybe your exercise routine is non-existent. Start building one.

You don’t have to quit your job in order to take back control, you can start small and work your way up to the bigger life changes.

Just start and keep on moving, even if it’s only baby steps – just keep moving forward, eventually you will gain momentum and then one day suddenly because you realise how far you got you will become more motivated than ever before and everything starts to fall into place.

Do what you can do and as you move forward you will see the next steps and grow into the bigger steps.
