Rebounding - Safety Tips
- Make sure all the legs of the rebounder fits properly.
- Check that all springs are intact if you have a spring rebounder.
- There is a circle on the rebounder. It is called the safety circle, stay within that circle when you bounce.
- Keep your muscles engaged while rebounding.
- Pull your tummy back towards your spine and keep the muscles engaged while bouncing to get a good abdominal workout throughout the session.
- Keep your shoulders back and you spine straight.
- Never lock your knees.
- Don’t arch your back.
- Remember to breath.
- Drink little sips of water in between long sessions. It will help you stay hydrated and flush out toxins.
- Wear tight fitting clothes to ensure that you don’t have long leggings that could get stuck in a bungee/spring.
- Rebound at your own pace.
- Detoxing symptoms: If you experience dizziness, lightheadedness, or nausea, these are very common symptoms of rebounding in the beginning.
- If you feel strange, simply return to the basic health bounce or health walk.
How to choose a rebounder
At the moment, I’m using an Urban Rebounder. It was initially used in my gym before I sold the business. Because I understand the value of rebounding, this rebounder was one of the few items I kept after selling the fitness facility. My rebounder is a bifold model with springs that comes with a portable travel storage case and is easy to transport. It is of medium quality, safe to use, and reasonably priced. It is essentially an entry-level rebounder.
I am very pleased with how it handled the pressure of daily use in a fitness facility without changing any springs. I found it to be a low-maintenance fitness apparatus. It offers good value for money especially if you are a first-time buyer on a tight budget.
At the time, there weren’t many options available, but rebounding has grown in popularity. It is a simple apparatus to use at home and a fun, safe way to strengthen your entire body.
There are now many different types on the market, making it difficult to choose. All rebounders are not created equal and it is especially important to avoid using one that can be harmful.
What you should look for when choosing a rebounder
- How much weight can the rebounder support?
- What is your budget?
- Do you prefer a spring-loaded or bungee rebounder?
- Are you looking for a small or large bouncing space?
Here is a list of some things to consider when buying a rebounder
- Durability: The materials of the mats can vary but a heavily woven surface is essential for a strong, yet supportive and soft rebounder.
- Springs: If you consider buying a rebounder with springs, the most important factor to consider when making your decision is the type of springs it has. Although steel springs are heavy-duty and long-lasting, they can be noisy.
- Bungee cords: There are now rebounders available that uses bungee cords instead of springs. They may not be as durable, but they are gentler and quieter.
- Safety pads: Most rebounders include a ring-shaped safety pad that covers the springs. It protects your feet from the springs and makes the workout both safer and more comfortable.
- Handlebar: Many rebounders include a built-in handlebar that can be used to keep yourself steady while bouncing. If you are a first-time rebounder, you may need it until your balance has improved to the point where you can bounce without it with confidence. The goal is not to rely on the handlebar.
- Portability: Many rebounders fold up, making them simple to store or transport from one location to another. Some of them have restricted foldability, which means you can only fold the legs in. Others are more adaptable and can fold down to a fraction if its original size.
